Fourth Grade News
This week in our class:
Welcome to week two of fourth grade! I have loved getting to know your students and reading your letters about your precious babies! I can't wait to help them grow and learn this year.
Wednesday, August 21 - Book Orders Due
Monday, September 2 - No School, Labor Day
Friday, September 27 - Homecoming/SIP Day - Early Dismissal
We will continue building our stamina this week while also learning about our reading stations. We are reviewing genres, story elements, and what good readers do!
This week we will take our benchmark STAR test for reading. This will help guide my instruction as well as determine our reading levels.
Just like in reading, we will work on building our stamina in writing this week. We will use a variety of stories to help us get back in the world of writing! On Tuesday and Wednesday we will be doing our "On-Demand" writing prompt for our Narrative Writing unit. This will give me a baseline to help guide our writing lessons.
We will not officially start spelling this week, although we will be learning about our Word Work station during reading. I will be dividing the students into three spelling groups after we take our benchmark assessment. After I know the groups, I will send home a note so that you will know which color your student will be for spelling.
After completing the beginning of the year assessments, students will begin Unit 1!
Mystery Science starts this week - so much fun!
We are starting our Map Skills unit this week. We will learn all about maps and globes, as well as the continents and oceans.
