Rules and Discipline
We will be using a classroom behavior system that incorporates math and economic concepts and is based on credits and debits. Throughout the week, students can earn credits for many things. Credits are earned for following rules, showing good character, putting extra effort into school work, being responsible, and completing jobs. Debits are given to students when they break classroom rules. If a student uses up all of their money through debits, they will begin to owe time for poor behavior choices. This will result in the loss of free play time during recess.
All students have their own log paper to keep track of their credits and debits. It will be stored in a small envelope on each student’s desk. Unless the student is specifically told, I am the only person in the classroom who adds tallies to the log books. At the end of each week, students add up their credits and subtract their debits to calculate their weekly total. This total will be transferred to their log paper for the following week and they will bring home their current log paper on Friday.
Each credit equals 1 cent. At the end of the grading period, students will visit the bank and the classroom banker (who will be chosen based on behavior) will pay them accordingly. Students will then be allowed to purchase items from our classroom store including: toys, candy, computer time, educational items, lunch dates, etc. Money that is not spent will be returned to the bank and the credits will be added to the log for the following grading period.
Please remember that your cooperation at home will help our school days run more effectively. Talk with your child about their behavior choices – congratulate them on positive decisions and discuss the consequences of poor choices.
